George Michael has announced that he will be giving ‘the gift of song’ as a wedding present to Prince William and Kate Middleton ahead of their marriage on April 29th 2011.
The singer, who found fame in the 80’s as part of British pop duo Wham! before going solo, spent two days in the studio arranging and recording a cover of the Stevie Wonder classic ‘You and I’, which is now available to download for free on the singer’s website.
Announcing the song on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Michael explained that “The idea came to me last week that I should express my happiness at the marriage publicly.”
Upon completion of the song, Michael tweeted: “I’m REALLY happy with it… and I know Diana would have approved.” Sources close the the royal couple say that they are also very pleased with the track, and have given it the Royal seal of approval.
Michael was a close friend of Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, after they met at the AIDS Trust Charity Concert of Hope. Diana was known for her charitable efforts, and in her honor listeners are redirected to the Royal Wedding charity donation page after downloading the free single.
