Christina Aguilera has performed a a unique rendition of ‘At Last’ at the Etta James‘ funeral.

Like many vocalists, Aguilera has been heavily influenced by James, and cites her as a key musical inspiration.

She also revealed that every on of her tours over the past decade have included a cover of James’ iconic ‘At Last’, telling her audiences that “Ms. Etta James is my favorite singer in the whole wide world”.

While introducing the song, the ‘Genie In A Bottle’ singer said that she has, “aspired to sing like her, to be like her, to emulate her notes and her passion, and her love for what she did”

“Out of all the singers i have ever heard, she was the one that cut right through my soul and spoke to me”

Etta James died from leukemia at the age of 73 on January 20, 2012. Her funeral was attended by hundreds of family, friends, and fans of the late R&B/Soul icon, who broke down many cultural and musical barriers throughout her illustrious 58-year career.

Stevie Wonder delivered a moving musical tribute before Rev. Al Sharpton offered a powerful eulogy for the icon, which opened with a statement from President Barack Obama that said: “Etta will be remembered for her legendary voice and her contributions to our nation’s musical heritage.”
