85-year-old veteran Jazz vocalist Tony Bennett has hit the number one spot on the Billboard Album Chart.
In his highly influental 60-year career, surprisingly, this is the first time Bennett has been No.1 in a national U.S. chart.
The album, ‘Duets II’, features duets with recent pop artists, following on from the success of his 2006 release ‘Duets: An American Classic’, which featured the likes of Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Bono, and Barbara Streisand.
Much like ‘Duets’, ‘Duets II’ features a range of well-known Jazz numbers such as ‘One for my Baby’ and ‘The Lady is a Tramp’ sung by Bennett and some of the most famous artists in music today, including Lady Gaga and Mariah Carey.
The ‘Duets II’ album also features what is reported to be the last studio recording Amy Winehouse made before her death, ‘Body & Soul’.
The album sold 179,000 copies last week, beating country group Lady Antebellum‘s ‘Own the Night’ (125,000), and Demi Lovato‘s latest album ‘Unbroken’ (96,000).
