Actor, musician, and director Billy Bob Thornton has premiered his documentary portrait about the life of music legend Willie Nelson in Austin, Texas.
The documentary, entitled ‘The King of Luck’, closed out the film portion of the South by Southwest Festival and aims to be “an accurate and loving tribute to Willie”, Thornton said.
Split into three distinct sections, The Crew, The Family, and The Band; the documentary features a unique insight into many aspects of Nelson’s personal and musical life, including testimonials from his family, his veteran band members, and notable musicians such as Jimmy Vaughn and Ray Benson.
Thornton started filming while on the road with Nelson; and as a long-time friend he was granted unprecedented insight into the personal life of the country music legend. Thornton describes the documentary as “a movie that’s told by the people around him, who love him, and we thought he deserved it”.
Nelson is also gearing up for the release of his collaborative album, ‘Here we go again‘, with Wynton Marsalis and Norah Jones.
